How GAI came to be.
What began as a regional initiative has evolved into a global platform with growing influence. Originally founded as SGWA by Fatima Danso, a Gambian American entrepreneur and creative, the platform was built to celebrate African excellence and create meaningful opportunities across Africa and its diaspora. As the vision expanded beyond borders, it evolved into Global African Impact Awards reflecting a broader mission to connect culture, impact, and global influence.

Global African Impact Awards (GAI) was born from a vision to celebrate internal and external African excellence. Originally founded as SGWA by Fatima Danso, a Gambian-American entrepreneur and creative, the platform was established to create a space where achievement across the diaspora could be recognized and connected on a global level.
Fatima's journey as an entrepreneur across multiple industries revealed a gap in how African talent and excellence were highlighted. She envisioned a platform that did more than just present awards—she wanted to build an ecosystem where influential leaders, innovators, and changemakers could meet, collaborate, and drive meaningful impact.
As the platform grew in scope and vision, it evolved into Global African Impact Awards, reflecting its global mission. Today, GAI stands as a premier experience celebrating the collective influence of the African diaspora while fostering the next generation of excellence and global opportunity.
